The Importance of Body Dynamics
– If you want to be successful in your bodywork career and help clients for a long time to come, you have to take good care of yourself first. That means you must have good body dynamics while you work. In this short video from my Body Dynamics Mastery class, I lay out the reasons why this is true:
Obviously, if you don’t stay healthy yourself, you can’t help anyone else to feel better. Right?! That’s even more important in these crazy times. Of course, when you feel good physically (and mentally), you feel better about your work. You feel more fulfilled.
Not only that, but your clients feel better, too! When you feel good while you’re working, that positive energy translates directly to the tissue. And your clients are actually getting a much better, more focused session than if you didn’t feel so good.
Every stroke has more power, more energy. Your client feels like they’re getting the best massage ever! They’re so happy to schedule again when it’s done. And they refer their friends and family. The result is a thriving, long-term, successful practice! I personally know hundreds of therapists who have experienced this.
An important benefit of good body dynamics is the ability to avoid burnout. Most massage therapists don’t make it past 1 to 3 years in the profession. Sometimes, they try to do too many sessions after they get licensed. Sometimes, they burn out their thumbs by using them incorrectly. Or their elbow, or their shoulder, or their low back, or…
But if you use your bodywork tools correctly, you won’t have to worry about physical burnout. In the Body Dynamics videos I’m sharing with you, I show you exactly how to protect your thumbs, your back, everything! And I show you several techniques and tricks that help you during the session.
It’s also important to focus on what you do before and after the session, in preparation for work and after you’re done. Things like nutrition, exercise, good sleep, etc. These all affect how well you do your bodywork and how long you can continue working without burning out.
The need for good bodywork is massive right now. And believe it or not, there is a massive shortage of good massage therapists these days. There are not enough schools, not enough graduates, and not enough good training to help therapists to be their best for as long as they want to practice.
This has created an excellent opportunity for good therapists who focus on taking good care of themselves first. I hope you are one of those. Clients are waiting.
Stay well,
John
