How to Use Cranial-Sacral Therapy

In this video, we look at how you can use Cranial-Sacral Therapy (CST) in your practice. The two main ways to use CST are:
– to do a complete CST protocol session
– to incorporate CST techniques in a regular massage session

We also look briefly at a case study of a client that had a very aggressive form of multiple sclerosis and how I used CST to help him have a better quality of life for years after his diagnosis.

When you do a complete CST protocol session, the client is clothed and usually lying supine. The session usually lasts about an hour and includes the essential CST techniques taught in our CST 18-hour CEU classes.

Since the client is clothed in a full protocol session, this format allows you to easily work on people who for some reason cannot or choose not to disrobe. This may include the elderly, children, and people with a variety of conditions where even Swedish massage is not appropriate. This gives you more flexibility and versatility in your practice.

When you incorporate CST in your regular massage session, you are able to keep using the wonderful techniques you already use and are comfortable with. The client is usually disrobed and draped, and you just add whatever CST tools fit with the client’s condition and how you like to work.

CST works well with Swedish, Deep Tissue, Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Release, Sports Massage, Reflexology, Shiatsu, Hot Stone, Positional Release, and so many other modalities.

Pretty soon, you will find that you gravitate to certain CST techniques that fit well with your style and with your client’s needs. You now have a toolbox that allows you to handle a much wider variety of conditions and clients.
