Nurses Have Bad Backs Too

Recent studies have shown that a lot of nurses deal with bad backs because of poor equipment and body mechanics issues on the job. Unfortunately, sometimes the hospitals they work for won’t admit that their injuries are job-related. It’s become a huge issue in the medical world lately.

LMTs don’t usually have to lift patients all day, but more and more therapists are working on people in hospital beds and wheelchairs. The need for bodyworkers to help such people will only increase as our population ages. Our Special Clients class addresses how to work in these and other unique situations.

The Body Dynamics class will help you to avoid bodily injury on the job, so you can continue working for as long as you want. And the Full Session class will help you assess your clients and use your bodywork time efficiently as you relieve the issues in their tissues.

Bodyworkers often over-develop and over-stress their forearms, wrists, and hands, and especially the thumbs. In our Body Dynamics class, we work on each other and practice specific proven techniques to protect our thumbs, our wrists and forearms, AND our shoulders, neck, upper back, low back, hips, and legs.

The goal is to keep doing this work we love for as long as we want to, while taking good care of ourselves, too. It’s a practical class AND a fun class, too.

The Special-Needs Conditions class enables you to use a variety of massage techniques in ‘non-typical’ massage situations which are becoming more and more common as the population ages and as medical practitioners understand more about the many benefits of massage.

We will look at and practice techniques for a range of special-needs conditions and populations, such as clients that are bed-bound, clients that are wheelchair-bound, and various other populations depending on the goals of the participants – such as working on children or infants, clients with fibromyalgia, cancer, multiple sclerosis, clients needing quality end-of-life care, or clients that have an emotional release during a session.

In the DIT Putting it All Together into a Balanced Bodywork Session class, we’ll be assessing clients (each other!) and using Direct and Indirect techniques to work on our specific physical issues within the boundaries of a typical DIT bodywork session.

The goal may be to use DIT techniques exclusively in the session or in combination with other tools in your toolbox to deal with the client’s specific physical issues, increase their range-of-motion, and help improve their level of well-being.

You don’t have to be a DIT ‘expert’ to take any of these classes. If you’ve had some DIT training in the past, this class will help you to integrate that training into your practice. If you haven’t, it will give you a good starting point to begin using DIT techniques with your clients.
