This class gives you a fun, hands-on refresher of the major muscles and muscle groups that massage therapists work on: what the muscles do, what happens when they work overtime, and how to assess when they’re tight before your client gets on the table. The goal is to make it quicker and easier to see what’s going on with your client and communicate that clearly to them. The results: more effective massage sessions and more repeat clients.

See more about each part of this training below.

This class is three days from 9-5 on Friday and Saturday and 9 to 1 on Sunday.
All ROLMT CE classes are approved by the NCBTMB and the AR Department of Health.

Assessment and Muscle Anatomy

Know Your Muscles Inside and Out and Maximize the Value of Your Session

Effective Assessment of our clients is vital for your business, because clients are more comfortable when they know that you clearly know what you’re doing. They relax more easily, they respond to your work, and they want to come back AND refer other clients. Assessment depends on Knowing the Muscles and what they do in the body, so that you communicate confidently with clients and treat the conditions they have efficiently within the massage session.

Upper-Back2-300x252In this course, we will refresh our knowledge of the major muscles and muscle groups with a view toward assessment of common client conditions. We will review the primary characteristics of the muscles with an emphasis on being able to communicate clearly with clients and other health practitioners. The focus is on understanding which muscles are involved in the common pain and postural patterns that many clients have, including an understanding of the possibilities for nerve compression due to myo-fascial tightness or other causes. We will palpate each muscle group and review and perform the actions that those muscles help us to do.

14-posture-sideviewb-300x220To Maximize the Value of the Client Session, we will examine and practice various types of assessment skills available to massage therapists, including visual assessment, active and passive range of motion, gait pattern assessment, muscle strength, and other tests. We’ll also discuss which types of assessment techniques need to be referred out to other health practitioners.

We will practice using assessment skills to determine which muscles or other structures may be involved in a client’s condition, focusing on assessment tools for the Foot and Ankle, the Knee, the Hip, the Trunk & Spine, the Neck and Head, the Shoulder, and the Forearm and Wrist.

“I liked that we put the discussion into action. I think it was a great way to get our minds and body on track.” ~ Jane
