The Third Pillar of Cranial-Sacral Therapy Success
In previous posts, I described the first two pillars of Cranial-Sacral Therapy (CST) success: Excellent Techniques and Excellent Communication Skills. In contrast to what you might think, these are equally important to the success of your practice!
You need to be able to explain clearly to clients what you notice as you work on them – and about the benefits of CST and how it can help with specific conditions. I describe these benefits and conditions in the Ray of Light Training Online Courses, AND I show you how to educate your clients about CST:

There are two more pillars that are important to CST success. It’s kind of like a stool with four legs. One leg (techniques) is not going to balance you very well. Two legs (techniques plus communication skills) provide a little more support, but it takes a lot of work to stay balanced.
The same is true for three legs – it can be done, but if you move the wrong way you’re probably going to fall. It takes all four legs for good balance. And it takes all four pillars for CST success in your practice.
The third pillar is the subject for this post. It is your Presence. Your welcoming presence!
Are you prepared for your next session? Do you feel grounded? Are you carrying a lot of worries or negative emotions into the session? Are your mind and your intuition open and ready to see what your client needs from one minute to the next?
What can you do to be more grounded as you’re working on your clients? There are a lot of options. You can meditate, pray, exercise, garden, do tai chi, qigong, yoga, take a walk. There are so many things you can do to help you be more present for your client. What do you do to stay grounded?
If you’re carrying a lot of worries or negative emotions into the session, it’s difficult to stay in tune with your client and the tissue between your hands. That makes it difficult to follow the client’s “inner physician.” How can you process and let go of attachment to those emotions so they’re not draining your energy while you’re working? There are many tools that help with that. I’m just finishing a book about that now.
A welcoming space is also helpful – quiet, soft colors, soft lighting, either no music or music with no words. I have a Far-Infrared Amethyst Biomat on my table. The gentle far-infrared heat penetrates deep into the tissue and helps the client relax and be receptive to the CST techniques. Clients absolutely love it! They sink right into the table, getting the most out of the session every time.
The Far-Infrared Amethyst Biomat is an FDA-approved medical device and has many health benefits. Let me know if you want to get a Biomat for your office or home.
