What Exactly is Cranial-Sacral Therapy and how is it used?

There are a lot of different ideas about what exactly Cranial-Sacral Therapy (CST) is. In a nutshell, CST enables you to affect a person’s well-being in a beneficial way using extremely gentle techniques that are easy on the client AND easy on the therapist.

One of the best descriptions of CST that I’ve seen comes from Dr. John Upledger, the osteopath that built on the work of Dr. William Sutherland and originated CranioSacral Therapy:
“CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the CranioSacral system, which is comprised of the membranes and the cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.”

With the Ray of Light Training Cranial-Sacral Therapy and Direct-Indirect Technique classes, you learn how to use these gentle tools alongside the other wonderful techniques you already use to help your clients feel better. You also learn how to do a complete protocol CST session on its own. Upcoming classes are listed below. Each class offers 18 CEUs:

Aug 20-22 – Cranial-Sacral Therapy – Fayetteville
Sept 10-12 – DIT for Upper Back, Low Back, and Legs – Little Rock
Oct 8-10 – DIT for Shoulder, Arm, Neck, Head, and TMJ – Fayetteville
Nov 12-14 – Cranial-Sacral Therapy – Hot Springs

The goal of CST is to gently remove restrictions in the cranial and spinal bones, the layers of meningeal tissue between the bones and the brain and spinal cord, and the cerebrospinal fluid that bathes, nourishes, and protects the central nervous system (CNS).

The result is often profound relaxation and a free and more efficient functioning of the CNS. This translates into a release of tension and dysfunction in the areas of the body affected by the CNS. That includes just about every system and structure in the body!

In these live classes, you will have lots of practice, with me giving you personal guidance and direction throughout. I will be demonstrating the techniques before each practice session. You will get a clear sense of how to do each technique and how to determine if the client’s tissue is responding successfully.

You will also experience the techniques performed on you. This will give you an even better feeling for the techniques and what to expect with your clients.

As you may know, when you register early for a Ray of Light Training class, you save $98.

These are real tools that you can use right away in your practice. I’ve taught hundreds of therapists how to successfully incorporate CST and DIT into their practice and help their clients. I want to help you do the same in these hands-on classes.

Stay well, stay safe, and stay in touch,
